History It was founded in 1685 by Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji who stayed here upto 1688. During this period he engaged himself not only in hunting and training his warrior Sikhs in the martial arts but also in literary activities composing many works of religious as well as heroic poetry and patronizing several talented poets and writers whom he employed mostly for translating ancient classics into contemporary Braj or Punjabi. He also fought and won the battle against the combination of hill chiefs hostile to him. Before he left for Anandpur Sahib , he appointed Bhai Bishan singh to look after the fortress like complex and the Gurdwara with in it. The Gurdwara complex includes beside the main sanctum Darbar Sahib smaller shrines connected with the Guruji's activities here like Talab Asthan, Kavi Darbar Asthan and Dastar Asthan. Hola Mohalla, Baisakhi and birthday of Guru Nanak Dev ji, Guru Gibdind Singh ji and Sahibzada Ajit Singh ji is celebrated here as the biggest function.
Remarks Its 65 kms from Yamunanagar, 42 kms from Nahan and 50 kms from Dehradun. Paonta Sahib has approx 10,000 sikhs , auto charges Rs 250-300 to cover all 6 main historical Gurdwaras , else a free bus starts from the Gurdwara at 9am to cover these historical places. - *Gurdwara Bhangani Sahib - This Gurdwara commemorates Guru Gobind Singh ji's first battle, wherein he vanquished Raja Fateh Shah and his allies. * Gurdwara Tirgarh Sahib- This Gurudwara is constructed on the very hillock, from where Guru Gobind Singh ji is said to have shot arrows at his foes. * Gurdwara Shergarh Sahib - At this site, Guruji beheaded a vicious man eating tiger with a single wave of his sword.
