||Damdama Sahib , also called Guru Ki Kashi was officially recognized as the fifth Takht on November 18, 1966. The other four Takhts are Akal Takht- Amritsar, Takht Keshgarh Sahib- Anandpur, Takht Hazur Sahib- Nanded (Maharashtra) and Takht Harmandir Sahib -Patna (Bihar). Damdama means the breathing or resting place . Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji arrived here on 20-21 January, 1706 after fighting battles against Mughal atrocities and local Chaudhari Bhai Dalla looked after Guruji with great devotion. He refused to arrest Guruji as directed by Wazir Khan, Nawab of Sirhind. Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, adjoining the Darbar Sahib on the east, marks the site where Sri Guru Gobind Singhji held his daily assemblies during his stay. Sri Guru Tegh Bahadurji had called Talwandi Sabo Guru ki Kashi, predicting that "many scholars, philosophers, theologians, copyists with elegant hand, students and devotees will adorn the place." The prophecy came true when learned Sikhs poured in from far and near to be with Sri Guru Gobind Singhji. Among them was Bhai Mani Singh who came from Delhi escorting Mata Sundari and Mata Sahib Devan, the Guru's consorts separated from him after the evacuation of Anandpur. Sri Guru Gobind Singhji had Bhai Mani Singh prepare a fresh copy of the Sri Guru Granth Sahibji under his own supervision. Guruji spent nine months of intense literary activities and Damdame Wali Bir of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji was prepared here.
